The BSI Group of 2003 is well set to compete strongly in the global marketplace. It is a marketplace that has expanded rapidly to embrace standards, quality management, certification, testing and inspections, all areas in which BSI has a leading presence. It is a marketplace that encompasses all sizes of businesses from small companies to multinational corporations. It is a marketplace that includes all industries from heavy engineering to IT security.

In 1991 we established BSI in Tysons Corner, Northern Virginia to service the Americas and in 1998 the company moved to offices in Reston, some 20 miles from Washington, D.C. In early 2002 BSI became the number one management systems registrar in North America, providing a wide range of registration and certification services in virtually all sectors of industry, including aerospace, automotive, medical devices, software, and telecommunications. Additionally, the company also provides public and on-site training, and the sale of standards and publications.

BSI holds its own accreditations with the Registrar Accreditation Board (RAB) and Standards Council of Canada (SCC). BSI actively contributes to some of the key standards development initiatives such as AS 9000/AS 9100 and TL 9000 as well as other sector-based activities such as medical devices. This year BSI celebrates 12 years in the USA and the Americas operation is maturing to be a vital part of the Group’s future.

The BSI Group has continued to expand in the USA and in 1998 the Group acquired Inspectorate, a world leader in commodity inspections. Since then the American operations based in Houston, Texas have grown to become third in the American commodity inspection business.
Since 2001 the Group has developed new commodity inspection facilities in Pasadena, California, opened oil and petrochemical laboratories in Jacintaport, Texas and in 2003 has already opened full oil and petrochemical capability laboratories in Panama, Puerto Rico and Bahamas. These significant investments further strengthen BSI's inspection capabilities in the USA, Central America and the Caribbean, reinforcing the Group’s commitment to the US market.
