Welcome to Scotland

The Scottish North American Business Council (SNABC) is a non-profit, private-sector organization funded entirely by its members and governed by a Chairman and Board of Directors. The Board comprises several founder members – who have been strong supporters since our inception in 2000 – together with other business people, all of whose companies have successfully developed business links with North America.

The business communities of Scotland, the US and Canada have long enjoyed good links and mutually beneficial relationships. Our mission statement is to promote and enhance bilateral trade between Scotland and North America through effective business networking. So, we want to make these links even better.

Many distinguished Americans and Canadians take great pride in their Scottish ancestry. We seek to build on the goodwill this has engendered across the Atlantic. In developing our networks, we work closely with our fellow British American Business Council chapters in the UK and across the US and Canada. We also maintain good relations with trade-related public sector bodies on both sides of the Atlantic, such as the Commercial sections of the US Embassy and Canadian High Commission in the UK, and Scottish Enterprise and Scottish Development International in Scotland. We are also grateful for the strong support that we receive from our friends in CBI Scotland and other professional business bodies.

We offer our members a varied program of events that covers the whole panoply of networking opportunities from focused business briefings on key topics to dinners featuring well-known speakers. In recent months, our highlights were a very well-attended lunch with the Hon Louis B Susman, US Ambassador to the UK, and breakfast and evening briefings on trade and doing business in the US. These events were well attended and well received by those who took part. In 2010, our regular program of events will continue.

The trade between the US, Scotland and Canada is of vital importance to the Scottish economy and Scottish companies. We are delighted to be playing our part in providing our members with practical assistance about doing business in North America and working with other organizations to make those good trade links and sound networks successful.
